Each July, millions of people around the world take part in Plastic Free July™, a global movement that helps make it easier to reduce single-use plastic through simple, everyday choices.

What makes it powerful is how it starts. Not with big changes or perfect solutions, but with one small step. Last year, 174 million people across more than 190 countries took part, helping to avoid an estimated 290 million kilograms of plastic waste. These numbers are made up of individual choices, people trying something new, finding what works for them, and building habits that last well beyond July.

Starting small can lead to big change.

For many people, the experience begins with one simple swap. That might look like bringing a reusable cup to the café, choosing loose fruit and vegetables, or keeping a container handy for takeaway food.

These are the kinds of changes that fit easily into everyday routines. Many people find that once they start with one action, it often leads to others, sparking conversations at home, at work, or in the community.

Over time, these small shifts become the new normal. Join us and Make a Pledge. Across our community, people will be marking July 1 by taking the Plastic Free July pledge, choosing simple, practical ways to reduce single-use plastic in their everyday lives.

This shared moment is part of a wider global effort, with communities around the world joining in on the same day. Curious to know what other people have done for Plastic Free July? Learn about the steps they took, the challenges they overcome and lessons learnt here:

Take the Plastic Free Pledge

Small steps make a big difference! Join millions of people worldwide choosing to refuse single-use plastics. Together, these individual pledges contribute to an ambitious goal to set a new world record for the most people pledging to refuse single-use plastic in one day.

Many people find that making a simple pledge is a helpful way to get started. Choosing one item like plastic bags, single-use cups, water bottles or food wrap, can feel achievable and often leads to lasting change. Taking part on July 1 is a chance to be part of something positive, alongside others locally and around the world.
